DBG Bio Energy B.V. confirms first site at Delfzijl (Groningen Seaports)

21st October 2021, Amsterdam: DBG Bio Energy B.V. has today announced that they have secured a plot at the Groningen Seaports site in Delfzijl in the north of the Netherlands for their first production site for BioLNG, green fertilizer and liquid CO2.

DBG Bio Energy B.V. has agreed a 10-hectare plot with the Groningen Seaports (GSP) authorities at Delfzijl. The site has been selected as it provides ideal physical requirements in terms of scale, access to utilities and markets, as well as carbon-friendly logistics, providing access in and out for barges and trains - a key part of the DBG Bio Energy B. V. business plan. The strategy of GSP to support “green and circular projects” inspired constructive and efficient conversations while preparing the reservation of the plot.  DBG Bio Energy B.V. is aiming to commence production by the end of 2022.

DBG has informed the village of Borgsweer (Gemeente Eemsdelta) on the project in Delfzijl. On the 20th October 2021 an information meeting was held in Borgsweer together with Groningen Seaports. DBG explained the several steps of the process of making BioLNG and fertilizer out of cellulose-containing industrial waste streams. Afterwards the residents responded positively on the proactive communication for the Delfzijl project. DBG agreed to organize additional meetings in Borgsweer as future milestones are reached.

DBG Bio Energy B.V. will process substantial volumes of cellulose-containing industrial waste currently incinerated or landfilled.  The biogas will be further processed to BioLNG and high purity CO2, a replacement for fossil fuel derived CO2. BioLNG is a renewable replacement for LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas). In coming years, BioLNG will play an essential role in decarbonizing heavy duty road and marine transport.  BioLNG can be stored and distributed using existing LNG infrastructure. The envisioned installation will produce 15 kton of BioLNG per year. This allows for more than 60 million kilometers of CO2 neutral driving. Finally, the upcycling process delivers substantial volumes of green fertilizer (140,000 tons per year) for sale across Europe and beyond.

Berkay Güres, Founder and Managing Director of DBG Bio Energy B.V. said: “Securing this plot of 10 hectares is a major milestone as we prepare for the construction of our first site and to enter the market. Our preparation over the last few months in terms of analyzing feedstock, testing equipment and developing products has been very successful and we now have many productive partnerships opening up.  While we are focusing our efforts on our first site, we have several additional opportunities we are developing simultaneously- both in the Netherlands and abroad.
