DBG Bio Energy introduces Gerlof Hotsma as DBG Project Manager Delfzijl, Province of Groningen, The Netherlands

For quite some time now, Gerlof has been active in preparing and facilitating the settlement of the plant of DBG Bio Energy B.V. in Delfzijl, Province of Groningen. As a member of our DBG management team, he liaises with Groningen Sea Ports N.V. and other important stakeholders in the Province of Groningen. The port of Delfzijl has been selected as the location to realize the first DBG Bio Energy plant in the Netherlands.

 

Apart from securing the plot and the necessary utilities, Gerlof provides the relevant stakeholders with information and facilitates the permitting process. Parties like the Province, the “Omgevingsdienst” (ODG), the nearby municipalities and inhabitants are addressed by Gerlof. Also exploring synergies with other companies in the Province of  Groningen and cooperation with representatives of nature- and environment associations, are part of the role. In short, Gerlof is the regional overall project manager dealing with all crucial pre-conditional aspects of settlement of the DBG Bio Energy plant in Delfzijl.

In his career, Gerlof was employed by Groningen Sea Ports N.V. in the capacity of business developer. Thereafter he started his own consultancy firm and was involved in a wide variety of assignments in the private and public sector, all related to environment, infrastructure and energy. Gerlof has a vast network in the northern part of the Netherlands and is well connected to the DBG main office in Amsterdam.

DBG Managing Director, Berkay says: “We are very happy to have Gerlof in our team, he plays a crucial role in Delfzijl and its surroundings. He brings in all his experience and his personal and business network necessary in order to open our first DBG Bio Energy plant in the Netherlands. No doubt, he will be able to liaise with all the relevant stakeholders and provide them with the information needed to make DBG in Delfzijl a success not only settling in but also for the long future ahead of us!”

Gerlof commented: “I feel proud to be able to contribute to a project close to my heart. Not only the further development of the Eemsdelta, but also the ultimate goal of turning an industrial residue into green products, is a stimulating purpose in itself.”

Gerlof holds an MSc in economics (University of Greenwich), a Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies (Van Hall Institute) and a certificate in Strategic Business Planning (University of Groningen).
